I showed some of my friends and family members these images. Some of the words people used to describe the images were gross, sad, unnecessary and intense. I agree with all of the comments except the one that claims the image are unnecessary. That mentality is perpetuating the ignorance people choose to have regarding the meat industry. Some of the photos may be over the top, but they are real. None of these photos are photoshopped or exaggerated. The reality of the situation is just as morbid as some of these images.
Some of the most thought provoking images were the satirical comics. In one of the comics, a person is describing the brutal practices that cows receive in factory farms. He says that he is doing these things to a dog instead of a cow and the person he is talking to is absolutely appalled. He says that he injects his dog with hormones and semen to impregnate it so that he can kill the puppies and murder them. Most people would have the reaction that the person in the comic had. There is no question that doing that to a dog is morally wrong and upsetting and only a cruel human would do that. At the end of the comic strip, the man talking realizes he said dog instead of cow and corrects himself. The person he is talking to responds by saying, "LOL I don't even give the smallest bit of fuck." It is interesting that humans view cows and dogs so differently. In the United States, a person who abuses their dog or another animal they keep as a pet can be convicted of a misdemeanor or even a felony in some circumstances, however, thousands of cows and other domesticated animals die each day at the hands of humans. What is the difference?
